Remember and Honor
The month of May contains three special days on which we remember and honor those who have sacrificed for us. They are Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, and Mothers Day. Memorial Day is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered. Armed Forces Day is a day to honor Americans serving in the US military branches. Also, veterans of foreign wars continue to serve, remember, and honor. Please join in praying for the families, friends, and colleagues of those who gave their lives in sacrificial service. Just use your own words and speak from the heart. Remember and honor.
While preparing this post, I asked myself, “What might a Military Chaplain pray for those who serve?” I found this Chaplain’s prayer on VFW Post 3513 , Scottsdale, Arizona’s website, along with others. Maybe we all could pray along somehow as we read it. It reads:
“Dear God,
We thank you for the brave who have fought, and continue to fight, so courageously for our nation. We ask for your covering and blessing over them and their families. We pray that you would be gracious and encircle them with your peace. We pray for your great favor and goodness to be evident in their lives.
Please be with the men and women in uniform, who serve our communities and nation every single day. We ask that you provide your protection, that you would be their guiding force who leads the way, and their rear guard who keeps them safe from behind. We ask that you would draw them to yourself amidst the dangers they face in a dark world, for you are the Truth, you are the Way, you are the Light.
In the Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen.”
Please take time to remember and honor those who have fallen and those who serve in or for our military.
The month of May also contains Mother’s Day, a special day on which we remember the sacrifices of the mothers and women in our lives. Their sacrifices are many and varied. Please remember and honor them too.
