Give to God the Things that are God’s
Three books within the Bible record an incident when Pharisees tried to trap Jesus on His beliefs. They chose the subjects of authority and taxes. It went like this: 15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk. 16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you aren’t partial to anyone. 17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius. 20 He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?” 21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away. Matthew 22:15-22
Have you ever given anything to God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit? A gift? Your life? I am reminded to truly give it. Back in 2020 I wrote a song for the three of them and dedicated it to the public. Then, it mostly just sat. I couldn’t sing it. Some notes were too high or too low for me. It seemed a little too hard for me to sing and play. But it belongs to God, and to you. Maybe you can find different people who can sing it and hit all the notes. Maybe some musicians can improve it. We need each other. It’s God’s. And it’s yours. Make it your own, friends. But also, give to God the things that are God’s. Click the blue title to access the lead music sheet with chords. Click the start music triangle to hear a clip of the music. If you can’t use it, that’s fine. But let’s each do our part to give to God the things that are God’s, whether with our voices, our music, our helpfulness, our obedience, kindness, praises, love, whatever we can! -And May God Bless You!
